San Juan de Dios Hospital in Zaragoza had the challenge of becoming the first 100% sustainable hospital in Spain.
BUSINESS CASE
San Juan de Dios Hospital in Zaragoza had the challenge of becoming the first 100% sustainable hospital in Spain.
In order to become 100% sustainable they had to start using renewable energies through a heat pump for hot and cold water production and air conditioning. Establish an energy contract from 100% renewable sources and eliminate cooling towers. The boilers were only used for DHW production and the hospital would no longer exist in order to achieve 100% sustainability through a study about the implementation of a geothermal heat pump.
The benefits begin to be seen after two years when the installation is already amortized, in summer the energy obtained from the evaporator is used to support cooling, achieving significant net savings per year.
